laptops can have any number of ports on them that you can use to connect to your tv. best to look in your manual for: yellow video component, s-video, dvi, hdmi, audio (like headphone output).
it also depends on what connectors your tv has, the new flash lcd/plasmas are normally quite simple to connect to from a laptop/pc while the older tv's are a bit harder.
HDMI is the best, has audio and video, for full HD tv's, expensive
DVI video connector & heaphone to component audio next best (newer tv's)
analgue video connector & headphone to component audio (newer tv's)
s-video & headphone to component audio (older tv's)
yellow video component & headphone to component audio (older tv's)

your local electronics store will have numerous adaptors and connectors, so jsut take a note of what outputs your laptop has, what your tv will accept and find the appropriate adaptors
