Cannot connect to car due to cassette adapter (I do not have one in the car). Best buy staff told us we did not need one! Who even has a cassette player in their car anymore!?!

I recently purchased the Audiovox Xpress R, along with the FM Modulator and home kit from Amazon.com. I had researched the products on other sites, and found good information and the best price here. Unfortunately, after I received the product and had it professionally installed (as recommended) I noted that the swivel car mount was broken. I immediately sent an email to Amazon Customer “No” Service explaining the issue. They replied by instructing me to contact the vendor, NYC Electronics. Unfortunately, there was no link to secure this contact. I asked Amazon Customer “No” Service to contact the vendor on my behalf. They won’t do this. So, I attempted to locate NYC Electronics. Not found. Amazon Customer “No” Service asked that I return the product. I just spent money on the professional installation so this was not an option. I just need someone to handle the simple customer service issue here. Watch what you buy through Amazon. Appear to be a good company with great prices and product, but NO customer Service.

I’ve had this unit since Christmas 2008, and am now returning it for the second time. After it being in my truck for a week after Christmas, I purchased a home cradle to listen to it in the house. Placing it in the cradle fried the unit. I shipped my receiver to Delphi and received another unit around 2 weeks later (mid January). Now (mid February), I am no longer able to get a signal.
I really enjoy the XM radio service, but the equipment to listen to it on is incredibly expensive and of such poor quality that it’s almost not worth getting. And, of course, I made the stupid mistake of getting the unlimited plan – when you ship these units to get fixed, you get a different unit back, which requires a call to XM. Also, registering new units under an unlimited account cost around $70….all this due to garbage quality.

Nice display that is in color. Good functionality with the record and replay. The kit does come with everything you need for a car install, but the FM modulator is very weak if you decide to go that route and I ended up having to install a more powerful one from Radio Shack (approx $40).

I tell you what, I used to want to get a new stereo with built in XM, but I don’t think I’ll ever find one that will do even 1/2 what this one will.
Pros.
1. The screen. Crisp, clear, clean, and MEANINGFUL! This screen shows everything for the channel you are listening to, AND it shows everything for the “last channel” you were listening to. You can set it to show what’s playing on all of your “favorites”. Absolutely perfect.
2. Major minor features. The unit has a “jump” feature to go back to the last channel you were listening to. Simple menus, simple settings.
3. Recording. I had one other unit before that let you pause the station you were listening to, and this unit does that but better (it keeps track of the last several songs, displays the artist/title of them), and you can easily go back and play what you want. This is cool and all, but this unit goes a step further. Hear something you like and want to hear it whenever you want? Fine. Hold down the main button and it gives you the option to record the song. You can have 10 songs recorded at once, and listen to them whenever you want. THis feature is hands down the best on the unit.
Cons.
1. Very minor, but the antenna and the power ports are on opposite sides of the unit. Makes wrapping and hiding the cables difficult.
2. The “fav” button is at the end of the 1/10 buttons. Makes you accidentally hit it occasionally while changing your stations. Also very minor.
3. The FM modulator sucks, BAD. I bit the bullet and hard wired my unit, with the unit only 1 foot from my radio, it could barely pick up the FM transmissions. Hardwiring is better of course, and I’m very glad I did it.
Overall, I can’t recommend this unit enough. Amazing quality, amazing features.
