DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM! We purchased this as the base for our home entertainment system. After 2 service calls, it was diagnosed as being the seat of all problems. The unit kept freezing the video portion of the signal. Bottom line: we had to trade our unit in on a service call in order to replace it with one that works. We are out almost $600 plus the cost of the DIRECTV price of the replacement and/or the cost over time of the service contract.
I SAY AGAIN: AVOID AT ALL COSTS! LET THE BUYER BEWARE!

THE PLAY BACK FREEZES EVERY FEW SECONDS AND FINALLY WILL NOT RECOVER AT ALL. DIRECT TV IS AT A LOSS AS TO HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND, BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING HUNDREDS OF CALLS ON THIS UNIT THEY ARE REFUSING TO HONOR THEIR SUPPORT CONTRACT TO REPLACE THE UNIT. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT.

DIRECTV HR21PRO 500 GB HD DVR PRO Receiver for Ka-Ku Band (HR21PRO) I purchased my HR21 Pro from Amazon.com after seeing it advertised by DirecTv on the first two pages of Home Theater (September 2008). The problem I have with this product is that it is not what was advertised by DirecTv as the HR21 Pro. The photograph of the HR21 Pro in the advertisement clearly shows a 1080p indicator light on the front right panel of the DVR. The HR21 Pro I purchased from Amazon only goes up to 1080i… a big difference. I have read that 1080p signal from DirecTv is soon to be available. I guess this means that my new HR21 Pro is already obsolete.
