From the verbal description I thought this item was a Direct TV multi-satellite dish antenna. When the Item arrived at my house, I found it to be a Direct TV receiver unit. Probably a good price for the item, but I already have two receivers. I needed a multi-satellite dish so that I could receive additional programming on a second Direct TV satellite.

First off I would like to just say, how is it that anyone could ever mistake this for a full satillite system, it states at the very top of the order page RECIVER…It seems people just make things hard on themselfs by not thinking first, That I see day in and day out. I am not an RCA Fan infact other then these boxes I do not nor will I ever own any RCA products. These units are one of the better Sat boxes out there, for the price that is. Get real there not soposto be as fast a an Athlon XP its a Set top Sat box not a super computer and for a set top box there not that slow. However speed of menus depends on your signal strength since they are set top boxes which act as Clients to the larger Sat network so if your signal is not strong you don’t get much for bandwidth, so if your watching a program and you try and pull up info on other programs yes it will be slow. Remember Sat is Mpeg2 and there for is Streaming Data so it is not like brodcast channels you are only given so much bandwidth from the main Sats to stream the Video and recive information, just like an Internet connection. And yes it does have custom channel listing for different profiles I own 3 of these units and have changed the custom listing many times.

I’ve had two of these receivers for about a year and I can’t complain.

I’ve had this and the similar DRD450RG for about a month. They are decent receivers, but both come with the same remote that has the distinction of being the worst-designed remote & menu system that I have ever owned. They are unintuitive, unforgiving when you make a mistake (rather than allowing you to go back one level, you are dumped back to the top), and some basic functions are impossible to figure out without referring to the manual. The receiver is also rather slow to respond to the remote, compared to a Hughes DirecTV receiver I have also used.

I just recently switched from Cable to Direct TV (having purchased the DRD430RG box. It was not until I had everything hooked up that I came to realize that you cannot program the VCR to tape shows in the same manner that you can with a cable connection. For example, you can’t tape one show and watch another, or have it link with the program number each show carries. It basically only allows you to tape whatever is on channel 3 (that the TV is set to). No more easily taping multiple items on multiple channels. I found that with a timer function that comes with the system, it was possible to have Direct TV change the channel, but this will also turn off the system at the end of the session and you have to “reboot” each time you start up again. Big hassle. If you like taping all those shows you can’t watch, think twice before investing in this Direct TV.
