DOES A MEDIA CENTER EXTENDER NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE CABLE/SATELLITE TO PLAY LIVE TV?

I want to have access to my recorded Television and Live Television on a Television without having to attach the Computer or the satellite reciever to it. If my hub media center Computer is attached to the satellite reciever in another room, is my understanding correct that the media center extender will take the satellite Live Television signal it gets streamed from the hub media center Computer and transfer it via Wi-Fi or wired ethernet to the Media center extender for enjoyment on an attached TV? Basically I comprehend that the recorded shows will be accessible by the extender, I just want to confirm that I can also access the live Television broad casts via the hub PC. This is important because I do not have a second satellite receiever to attach to the media center extender for live TV.

Thanks in advance everyone!
